Delaware.Net DNS Servers
We have our own web-based DNS system called DNS-Logic
What is a DNS server?
DNS stands for Domain Name System. The DNS system is the part of the Internet that translates domain names into IP addresses, which then allows email and website requests to be routed across the Internet. Every substantial hosting company, email company, and ISP runs their own DNS servers to point incoming and outgoing domain requests to servers on their networks. The DNS server serves as the "traffic cop" on the hosting network. The DNS server routes DNS names (like www.delaware.net) to an IP address (like 66.173.128.0). Naturally, it is easier to remember a name like "delaware.net" than it is to remember an IP address like "66.173.128.0". This is why the DNS system is necessary. You can think of an IP address as a zip code for Internet servers.
How can I find out who hosts my site?
Each and every domain name that you register MUST have the name of a DNS server entered. If you search and pull up the data on your domain names, you will see the DNS information listed at the bottom of the registration. Typically the DNS servers that are listed will be a good indicator of who is hosting the site.
Pointing domains at Delaware.Net
If your domain is not registered through Delaware.Net, you will need to modify your domain name registration to point it at our DNS servers. To do this, you should log into your domain name registrar's website and set your DNS servers to the following settings:
- NS1.DNS-LOGIC.COM - 66.173.241.1
- NS2.DNS-LOGIC.COM - 66.173.240.4
After you change your domain's name server settings, it can take 24–48 hours for this change to spread across the Internet. Usually it changes at 7PM the day you make the change. To determine if your registration or transfer has been completed, look up your domain name in the Whois Database located at http://www.internic.net/whois.html. When the registration or transfer is complete you will see the above name servers listed at the bottom of the record.
What is DNS-Logic?
When you see our name server address, you may wonder why it is NS1.DNS-LOGIC.COM and not NS1.DELAWARE.NET. This is because we have invented a web-based DNS system here at Delaware.Net, and we call it DNS-Logic. It is in the finals stages of development, and is currently how we host and manage all of our hosted domains. In the future, we will open this system up to resellers and webmasters so that they can manage their own DNS remotely.
